Kathak is a north Indian classical dance style. Its origins began from the art of story telling evolving into an intricate style of its own. Influenced by the ancient Hindu temples and Mughal court traditions, Kathak is now one of the most popular Indian dances in the world. Its vast repertoire and fluid style aid in forming a great base to any dance form.
A beautiful confluence of footwork, pirouettes, graceful poses and expressive narration form a typical kathak performance.
Classes are taught from beginners level onto higher grades according to the syllabus of Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (www.istd.org) . They include basic movements, body and spacial awareness, vocabulary and movement in Kathak. Students also get opportunities to perform and are encouraged to take grade exams in Kathak.
Classes are available for both children and adults.
